HEADLINE: Guyana Launches Project ECHO to Boost Rural Healthcare
ARTICLE: Guyana’s Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Mount Sinai Health System, officially launched the Project ECHO Programme on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in remote communities across the country. ECHO, which stands for Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes, is designed to equip local healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills needed to manage and treat patients presenting with complex medical cases.
The programme connects frontline health workers in underserved and rural areas with a team of expert specialists who provide structured training and guidance. By leveraging this collaborative model, the initiative aims to reduce the gap in medical expertise between urban centres and remote regions, ultimately improving patient outcomes where access to specialist care is limited.
The launch took place at the Ministry of Health and signals a commitment by the Guyanese government to invest in capacity building within its national health system. The partnership with Mount Sinai Health System brings internationally recognized medical expertise to support Guyana’s healthcare workforce development efforts.
