Works on the $15.8 billion government multi-ministry complex at Haags Bosch, Eccles is nearly halfway completed, but the completion date has been extended from August this year to January next year, with a 24 hours per day work programme, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill has said.

“The progress for February is 48% against 50% as of today…,” Edghill told Stabroek News on Friday on the sidelines of Parliament and when asked for a project update.

He informed that there were challenges with “geotechnical variances” and that “low blow counts at tower 3 caused delays”. However, he added, “To mitigate against further delays the contractor has commenced night shifts, has additional resources deployed and there are continuous material shipments.”

Stabroek News visited the area twice last week, on Wednesday when it rained and on Thursday. Workers were on the site both days but this newspaper was not allowed on the property.
