The National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) has announced plans to reconstruct its Timehri Office at an estimated cost of $30,041,124, as part of a broader effort to strengthen its operational capacity along the East Bank of Demerara.
The project was put out to tender through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), attracting significant interest from the local construction sector. A total of 41 contractors submitted bids for the contract, reflecting strong competition for the project.
The reconstruction of the Timehri Office is expected to enhance NAREI’s ability to deliver agricultural research and extension services to farmers and stakeholders operating in the East Bank of Demerara corridor, a region that plays a significant role in Guyana’s agricultural landscape.
NAREI serves as the country’s primary institution responsible for agricultural research, technology development, and the dissemination of farming best practices. Upgrading its physical infrastructure is seen as a critical step in ensuring the institute can better serve the needs of the agricultural community in the region.
The submission of bids to the NPTAB marks an early stage in the procurement process. Evaluation of the 41 bids is expected to proceed in accordance with national procurement regulations before a contract is awarded to the successful bidder.
